Eddie Love Jazz Men Big Band Tribute

Thanks to Eddie Love he made the sound happen at our first It’s Commonly Jazz concerts. We are dedicating the opening night performance to celebrate Eddie Love, The Man and His Music… jazz. Eddie was born and raised in Memphis, TN and in high school he became interested in the trumpet under the direction of the Late Great Emerson Able. At Tennessee State University he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and earned his Bachelor’s Degree. He attended the University of Illinois and received his Masters Degree. In 1971 the started his illustrious career at Cincinnati Public School teaching music for 35 years. He often said, “Music is universal and communal; it does not discriminate against the person’s sex, color, or age.”

Eddie was a multi-instrumentalist, Master of the Trumpet and played the clarinet, saxophone, flute, drums and piano.

He influenced the lives of countless urban students with his direction and discipline. He taught notables such as; L.A. Reid and Baby Face, Reggie and Vincent Calloway with Midnight Star. He also played trumpet behind Nancy Wilson, The O.J’s, Gladys Knight, Stylistics, Redd Foxx, Lionell Hampton, Tony Bennett, The Dells and Temptations when they came to Cincinnati and led his popular big band, The Eddie Love “Swing” Big Band. Tonight you will hear a tribute led by Mike Wade with a 17 piece big band .
